The provider email didn't match your account.
Why a third-party link attempt was halted, and what to do.
What happened
You tried to connect a third-party provider (GitHub, Google, etc.) to your Citadel account, but the email the provider returned doesn't match the email on file. Linking is rejected — no identity has been written.
Why we reject this
Email is the canonical identity in Citadel. Auto-linking a provider that surfaces a different email would silently merge two distinct people: the provider's account and the Citadel account. That's a phishing primitive.
What to try
- Confirm the provider's email matches your Citadel email. The provider's settings page (e.g. GitHub → Settings → Emails) lists which email is set as primary.
- If you want to use a different email on Citadel, change it via Settings → Profile first, confirm the change via the magic-link sent to the new address, and then attempt the link again.
- If the addresses already match and you still see this error, contact support with both email addresses; we can verify out-of-band.
